8 tips after getting dental implants

8 tips after getting dental implants

Did you know that summer is the best time to start your Oral Implantology treatment? The absence of colds, better availability of time for consultations and the endless desire to smile make this season ideal for opting for the great benefits of dental implants.

If you have recently opted for the advantages of this treatment, you will know that it is necessary to carry out a series of care procedures during the postoperative period. As experts in the placement of dental implants in Tarragona, at Clínica Dental Drs. Moreno-Montalvo, we would like to give you some tips that will help you to make the postoperative period more bearable. Take note!

What care should I follow after implant placement?

The operation itself is painless, as we use local anaesthesia, but it is normal to feel some discomfort afterwards. However, with the following general guidelines, the adaptation period will be much easier and more comfortable:

  • For 48 hours after the operation, follow a cold, bland diet.
  • Do not rinse your mouth after the operation. It is preferable to wait for the next one and do it with a mouthwash recommended by our dentists.
  • The next day, you can also brush your teeth, but gently, avoiding the area that has been operated on.
  • The surgery causes bleeding that may last for 24 to 48 hours afterwards. To help control it, you can place a gauze pad over the bleeding area and bite down on it.
  • For a few days, avoid sport and sleep with your head elevated.
  • For inflammation, you can apply ice wrapped in a cloth at 15-minute intervals.
  • Smoking greatly increases the chances of implant rejection, so we always recommend eliminating it at least one week before and after the operation.
  • Once the dental crown is in place, it must be cared for like any other tooth and rigorous hygiene must be maintained to ensure that it lasts a lifetime.

However, please bear in mind that our dentists will give you specific recommendations for your particular case, such as the medication that our dentist considers appropriate.
