How has the relaxation of anti-COVID-19 measures affected dentistry?

March 2020 marked a turning point in the lives of much of the world's population, as the arrival of the COVID-19 disease brought a pause in the rhythm of our lives. For months, all areas of health have been adapting to the various security measures, even going to extremes for a long period of time.

Now, more than a year and a half later, these measures have been relaxed, especially those concerning the obligatory wearing of the famous mask. This has been a great step forward on a general level, but it has also greatly benefited the dental field. From our two oral health centres in Tarragona, it is priceless to see how many people are once again betting on their smile and their oral wellbeing!

Recently, an oral health surveywas carried out among more than 3,500people and the results obtained are very encouraging. Here are the most important results!

What changes have been noted in the area of oral health?

Since face masks are no longer mandatory in public places, many people have opted to restore their oral health, with even greater enthusiasm than before the pandemic:

  • The combination of summer and the removal of the mask meant a clear commitment to treatments such as teeth whitening or oral cleaning, to restore the strength of the teeth and give them the whiteness they had lost during the previous year.
  • The demand for orthodontic treatment has increased by 39% during the first half of 2021. Both traditional braces and the latest aesthetic alternatives have aroused great interest during these months, because is there anything better than a well-aligned dentition?
  • 56% of people say they value smiling more since the start of the pandemic, and no wonder!
  • Seventy-five percent of respondents also place very high importance on oral health, a 5% increase on the previous year.
  • Despite the fact that the dental field works specifically in the oral area, one of the main sources of COVID-19 infection, 89% of people say that they see dental clinics as safe from the coronavirus. We are so glad!

Without a doubt, we are on the right track. If you also trust us and you want to improve your smile this autumn, make an appointment at our dental clinics in Tarragona and we will do everything in our power to achieve it.
